Russian Ambassador Tells US to Stop ‘Hunting’ Russians

Moscow has always done its best to secure the release of its citizens in American custody, Moscow’s ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, has stressed, asking Washington put an end to its long-standing practice of going after Russian nationals in third countries.

Pushing back against a Wall Street Journal report accusing Russia of showing scant interest in freeing dozens of its detained citizens by negotiating prisoner swaps with the US, the envoy claimed in a statement on Telegram on Wednesday that Russia stands for the speedy return of all Russians held in American prisons.

Calling speculation in this regard unacceptable, Antonov stressed that having always stand up against Washington’s ‘hunt’ for Russians in third countries, Moscow strongly demands to put an end to this practice.

He also underscored that Russia’s authorized bodies handling the issue of prisoner exchanges have shown that they are up to the task, pointing to Konstantin Yaroshenko and Viktor Bout’s freedom accomplished via negotiation.
