Gov. Andrew Cuomo deflated New Yorkers’ hopes on Thursday saying he’s not ready to ease the state’s mask mandate even after feds greenlighted vaccinated Americans to finally breath free and gather indoors again, The Post reports.
According to Cuomo, he and Health Commissioner Howard Zucker, along with their partners and health experts in surrounding states, have yet to decide whether the state will adopt newly announced guidelines from the federal CDC regarding mask wearing and social distancing for those with vaccinations.
The new CDC guidelines announced Wednesday would allow for vaccinated Americans to avoid mask wearing in many instances, with CDC Director Rochelle Walenksy saying that anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing.
Under previously revised state rules, fully vaccinated New Yorkers can skip masks outdoors except in certain crowded settings, but still have to wear masks indoors.
State Sen. Jim Tedisco (R-Glenville) reckons the best bet is to always follow the CDC, mocking at the same time the ‘experts’ that New York state and Cuomo have provided.
