Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez Blasts US Oligarchy in Facebook Video

Resuming her long-dormant class-war rhetoric that first attracted so many young voters to her 2018 campaign, US Democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez denounced on Friday the US political system as an oligarchy.

In a video posted to Facebook, the self-styled democratic socialist pointed out that just one look at the fact that US elections are bought, that corporations and powerful corporate lobbies have more say in American legislation than everyday people is enough to show that they are living in oligarchy that has its democratic moments.

Ocasio-Cortez lamented that it’s becoming increasingly difficult for people to defend the stance that Americans are living in a true democracy, rallying against the presidency that’s not determined by popular vote, the House of Representatives that once every 10 years gets gerrymandered to ensure an outsize minority rule and against a Senate where tens of millions of people can vote for one candidate, one party, and still be in the minority.

She complained that Senate representation is likewise built into the US system of government with each state – no matter how large or small the population- being represented by two senators and emphasized once again that the US government is formally a republic, not a democracy.

She also called Congress a corrupt institution that “still can’t get their s**t together!” and in which is really difficult to be a normal person while surrounded by so much decay and moral emptiness.

Earlier in the same video, Ocasio-Cortez condemned the congressional inaction on gun violence, noting that even the fact that both houses of Congress are controlled by the Democratic Party and President Joe Biden is a Democrat isn’t enough to push through the party’s own voters’ legislative agenda.

Emphasizing that Biden’s demand for stricter gun-control laws has been to no avail, Ocasio-Cortez separated herself from the legislative masses stressing that mass shootings will keep happening as long as the Democrats think that there’s a certain level of horror that will convince Republicans to change their minds and weaken their devotion to the National Rifle Association.
