Biden Backs Compensation for Illegal Migrants

US President Joe Biden stated that illegal migrants who were separated while Trump was in office need to get some type of compensation, Fox News informed.

The president said that he still does not know what amount the compensation would be, several days after he said that the reports of payments that amounted to $450,000 were “garbage.”

Biden wanted to clarify the earlier remarks, where he mentioned a plan that covers a $450,000 per person intended for the illegal migrants who were separated during Trump’s presidency, saying that this will not happen.

Biden said that he did support the payments, but called garbage on the part with the amount.

The first to report on this story was The Wall Street Journal saying that the Justice Department, Homeland Security, and the Health and Human Services are thinking of paying some compensation in a response to a certain lawsuit filed by the civil rights groups. According to reports, some payments might get to nearly $1 million per family, although some of them would receive much less.

These reports have sparked outrage in the GOP circles, with some Republicans saying that the payments would seem like a reward for illicit behaviors and would even encourage more migrants to come to the US and deteriorate the ongoing crisis on the border.

House Judiciary Committee Republicans sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland saying that the proposed $1 billion payouts to the illegal migrants will definitely encourage other migrants to come to the United States.

They also said that this message is very wrong in times where there is a surge of migrants at the southern border.
