Leftist climate protesters took to the streets of Washington DC on Monday, and vandalized a statue of Andrew Jackson, former President, Fox News informed.
The protesters then swarmed the White House building, issuing a warning to US President Joe Biden to consider their demands seriously.
The coalition named Build Back Fossil Free hit the streets with their 5-day-long protests that are aimed at spurring action by Biden and his administration against climate change. They require the Biden administration to declare a national emergency and end the projects that involve fossil fuels.
The director of coalition and core member of the Sovereign Inupiat for a Living Arctic, Siqiñiq Maupin, said for Fox News that the protest is in motion because their organization thinks that President Biden should realize his campaign vows and promises.
Maupin wrote that people die from toxins, pollutants, and climate catastrophes that are occurring and that this needs to be stopped. He also stated that Biden’s whole campaign was based on the climate change narrative and turning out indigenous people and people of color.
Maupin also said that their lives were still being sacrificed for the sake of oil and gas and that is why they decided to hit the streets.
The organization is a nonprofit focused on climate change that aims to ensure that Biden will become what he promised in his election campaign. The coalition also has the support of several organizations and businesses like Ben & Jerry’s and Patagonia.
