Donald Trump to Sue Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey

Former US President Donald Trump, who was ousted from the social media platforms in the wake of the US Capitol attack on Jan. 6, is allegedly planning to launch class action lawsuits against Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, Axios learns.

Trump, who has continually complained about censorship by social media giants, is set to announce the suits at a press conference scheduled today at 11 am, supported by the non-profit America First Policy Institute, whose president and CEO and board chair, former Trump officials Linda McMahon and Brooke Rollins, will accompany him during the announcement.

Trump’s legal effort is the latest escalation in his years-long battle with Twitter and Facebook over free speech and censorship which resulted with him being completely banned from Twitter and banned from Facebook for another two years. According to Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, “internet companies have legal protections for content shared on their services and allows them to moderate posts and user accounts as they see fit.”

This isn’t Trump’s first shot at both CEOs and tech companies to take aim since in 2020, during his presidency, he signed an executive order limiting the legal protections that shield social media companies from liability for the content users post on their platforms, which President Biden revoked in May.
