US to Continue Talks on Cyber Security with Russia Next Week

In light of the recent attack on international software company Kaseya, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki informed on Tuesday that the United States and Russia are engaged in talks on cyber security, including at the senior level, with next meeting scheduled next week.

Asked whether there had been any contacts between Moscow and Washington regarding the issue, Psaki pointed that since the meeting between President Biden and Russian President Putin, they’ve undertaken bilateral expert-level talks on ransomware attacks with Russian officials.

She informed that Biden will convene key agencies leaders, including the State Department, Department of Justice and DHS, to discuss the growing problem of ransomware and the US overall strategic efforts to counter it.

The issue of cyberspace threats has recently gained particular importance in the United States: DarkSide group hacked into the systems of the Colonial Pipeline in early May, the American division of the Brazilian meat processing company JBS was attacked at the end of the same month and Kaseya was attacked more than a week ago- in each and every case the finger of blame was pointed to Russia-based cybercrime organization.

According to Psaki, the US intelligence community has so far made no official statements about those who may be behind the Kaseya cyberattack although it agrees that REvil operates out of Russia with affiliates around the world, so they will allow that assessment to continue.
