Ocasio-Cortez Blasts GOP Filibuster of Voting Rights Legislation

Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York, blasted the successful GOP filibuster of the voting rights bill supported by the Democrats, saying that a minority of lawmakers should not have such power, Fox News informed.

She took to Twitter to say that she does not believe that a small number of Senators should have the power to block the voting rights for millions of people. She added that she guessed she is from the far left where legislation should be passed when the majority of lawmakers vote for it.

“For the People Act”, the voting rights bill needed the support of 60 votes in order to clear a procedural vote in Senate on Tuesday. However, the GOP lawmakers filibustered the motion and killed the bill in order not to advance to the debate phase.
