Sung Kim Appointed as Special Envoy to North Korea

US President Joe Biden revealed that he will assign Sung Kim as the special envoy to North Korea, in a move to take a rather diplomatic approach towards curbing the nuclear programme of the communist nation, Fox News informed.

Kim is currently the US ambassador to Indonesia, and previously he was the head US envoy to South Korea and the Philippines.

At a press conference joining the President of South Korea Moon Jae-in, Biden said that the two nations have a common goal to engage in a diplomatic manner with DPRK, and work together towards denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

South Korean President is the second world leader to pay a visit at the White House, after Yoshihide Suga, the Prime Minister of Japan.

The tensions between North Korea and the US have increased in the recent months after the communist country condemned US for proceeding with joint military drills with South Korea.

Biden administration conducted a thorough review of DPRK policy in April and vowed to take a different approach from his predecessor President Donald Trump.
