Georgia Grand Jury Foreperson Says Indictments Were Recommended

The foreperson for the Georgia grand jury investigating efforts to overturn the 2020 election confirmed that the jury recommended indictments.

A special grand jury that investigated election interference by former President Donald Trump and his allies in Georgia recommended indictments for multiple people on a range of charges in its final report, most of which remains sealed. 

The forewoman Emily Kohrs said it was not a short list. She declined to name the people recommended for indictment but said there were certain names that would be recognized. 

Kohrs would not discuss specific indictments in the special grand jury’s report but noted that its recommendations were “not going to be some giant plot twist.” Kohrs said she cannot name who is on the list due to orders from the judge who presided over the grand jury.

When asked if the list could include former President Trump, she said: “Potentially. It might.” 

What does the release of Georgia’s grand jury report mean for Trump?

Trump and his allies have yet to face any criminal consequences for their efforts to overturn the 2020 election. The Fulton county probe could be the first time that charges are filed against Trump and allies for those efforts. 

The partial release of a special grand jury report on Thursday could give some of the most significant insight to date into a long-running Georgia investigation examining whether Trump and allies committed a crime in their efforts to overturn the presidential election.

Since May 2022, a special purpose grand jury in Fulton county, Georgia, has been investigating whether Trump committed a crime under state law when he tried to overturn the 2020 election by pressuring state officials to try and overturn Joe Biden’s victory in the state.

The grand jury concluded its work in January. On Thursday, three portions of the grand jury’s report to the Fulton county district attorney will be made public, the introduction, conclusion, and a section discussing whether witnesses who appeared before the grand jury may have lied.
