In the first 100 days of fiscal year 2023, more than 718,000 migrants have been stopped by U.S. border police trying to cross the border with Mexico, Fox News Digital has found.
Since the start of FY 2023 on October 1st, more than 230,000 migrants have been encountered monthly by U.S. Customs and Border Protections (CBP), according to CBP sources. Just over 198,000 of the 718,000 contacts were promptly terminated under Title 42, a policy that President Biden’s administration was unable to halt in December.
Compared to the same period in fiscal year 2022, when the CBP recorded around 518,000 border interactions in the first quarter, the data reveals a startling increase in migration.
The area near El Paso, Texas, where CBP has documented 168,000 migrant interactions since October 1, is the most active section of the border. The government claims that during the same time period, 78,161 “get aways” were also documented in just one industry.
The fresh information comes as President Biden makes his first-ever trip to the border on Sunday.
Throughout Biden’s presidency, but particularly in the last months of 2022, the United States experienced record-breaking border crossings. The White House has long attempted to characterize the surge as an annual event, but historical evidence reveals that the current situation goes much beyond periodic surges.
As Biden announced his visit, the White House also outlined a number of initiatives designed to stop the flow at the border. They include increasing refugee resettlements as well as extending a humanitarian parole program for Venezuelan nationals to include Haitians, Cubans, and Nicaraguans.
However, Biden agreed that the modifications are inadequate.
However, many border officials on the ground view Biden’s visit as a pointless show of goodwill that comes far too late.
