Texas Gov. Greg Abbott blasted on Monday New York City Mayor Eric Adams over the ticketing of migrant buses carrying illegals from his state to the self-declared sanctuary city, calling his moves another pathetic ploy to stop Texas from busing migrants to the Big Apple.
A spokesperson for Abbott’s office told Fox News that each bus that the State of Texas has used for this busing mission undergoes thorough inspections by the Texas Department of Public Safety Commercial Vehicle before departing for sanctuary cities.
The New York Post reported on Friday that New York Police Department was seen pulling over buses that had dropped off dozens of migrants near the Port Authority with officers reportedly searching each bus for possible infractions – tire treads, fluid levels, and even windshield wiper placement – resulting with a handful of drivers being issued tickets.
According to sources quoted by the Post, the inspections are part of a ploy to find excuses to take the buses off the road and complicate the migrant transportation into New York after being caught illegally crossing the southern border.
In an effort to bring attention to the overwhelming of resources in Texas border towns, GOP Gov. Abbott has bused thousands of migrants to Democratic-run cities of New York, Washington D.C., and Chicago.
Migrants’ busing, however, is a bipartisan effort considering that the mayor of El Paso, Texas, who’s a Democratic member, is sending more migrants to NYC than Abbott.
Amid the influx of migrant crisis, which could cost the city $1 billion this fiscal year, Mayor Adams declared a state of emergency in the Big Apple last week to help respond to the influx.
Adams suggested building more shelters in addition to the one going up on Randalls Island. He has already used 42 hotels to house migrants and has even negotiated with Norwegian Cruise Lines for more migrant housing on their boats.
