The leaders of the United States and some EU countries are abusing a tragic incident in support of the riots that are rocking Tehran and Iran, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani accused the US of attempting to violate Iran’s sovereignty over the issue of nationwide protests triggered by the death of the Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini, after morality police detained her for violating the Islamic Republic’s strict restrictions on women’s dress.
Amini’s death case has drawn international condemnation.
Pointing to the US support for the rioters that seeking to destabilize the Islamic Republic, Kanaani said that although it has been unsuccessful, Washington is always trying to weaken Iran’s stability and security.
He noted that Washington, in this case, is ignoring millions of Iranians in the streets and squares of the country in support of the system.
Meanwhile, provoked by the hostile atmosphere created by London-based Persian media outlets, Iran’s foreign ministry has also summoned the British ambassador in Tehran, Simon Shercliff, to convey Tehran’s protest to the UK government for hosting the media channels.
The official website of Iran’s government IRNA reported on Sunday that Shercliff was told during the meeting that by hosting Iran International TV, Manoto TV, and BBC Persian, the three London-based major Iranian satellite TV channels beaming programs into Iran, London is interfering in Iran’s affairs.
Tehran claims that by covering the nationwide unrest following Amini’s death, these media channels have put on top of their agenda the incitement of violence and the spread of riots.
Tehran, according to the ministry, considers this an action against Iran’s national sovereignty.
The Norwegian ambassador in Tehran, on the other hand, was summoned over Parliament President’s, the Iranian-Norwegian Masud Gharahkhani, meddlesome remarks in support of and solidarity with Iran’s protests.
