Twitter Agreed to Pay Whistleblower $7 Mil in June Settlement

Twitter agreed to pay about $7 million to the whistleblower in June whose allegations are now a part of Elon Musk’s case to get out of buying the social media platform. The whistleblower, Peiter ‘Mudge’ Zatko, was fired by Twitter in January. He was the head of security.

Last month, Mudge accused Twitter of falsely claiming it had a solid security plan and for making misleading statements about its defenses against hackers and spam accounts.

A hearing date is set for Mudge to meet with the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on September 13 to discuss the allegations.

Days before he filed the whistleblower complaint in July, a settlement was completed by Twitter. In it, Mudge agreed to a nondisclosure agreement that forbids him from speaking publicly about his time at Twitter or disparaging the company.

The settlement was confidential and was all related to his lost compensation. It followed months of mediation over tens of millions of dollars in potential pay.

The whistleblower settlement case is now wrapped up with Musk’s case against Twitter. Musk is spearing a head-on legal battle with the social media platform over his deal to purchase the company for $44 billion. He then changed his mind.

Musk has been trying to back out of the deal for months. He claims that Twitter misled him about the number of bots and fake accounts on the site.

Some experts, however, say Musk has buyer’s remorse due to the economic downfall since he offered to buy the company.
