Former President Donald Trump would be supported by more US voters than the current POTUS, Joe Biden, in a hypothetical match-up if the 2024 election were held today, a Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll study result show as quoted by The Hill.
Reports show that while just 45% of voters in the survey said they would vote for Biden, Trump won the support of 48% of people and 8% were undecided.
Trump is more popular among rural voters, where he won by 33 percentage points, and among men that preferred Trump by a 50% to 43% margin, while Biden won by 20 percentage points among urban voters and 4% among suburban voters.
Among women, the results of the survey conducted from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2 among 1,989 Americans were evenly split at 46% percent.
The newest study results come in a time when President Biden plays defense on a munch of issues such as skyrocketing inflation, continuously high number of new COVID-19 cases while he fights resistance to vaccine mandates he ordered and the humiliating withdrawal of the US troops from Afghanistan.
This whirlwind of problems has caused Biden’s approval ratings to plummet to record-breaking lows with this news poll showing a 51% disapproval rate of his job performance among respondents – a 6% drop in the last few months.
His Democratic Party ranked even lower with only 45% approval, compared to the 49% support for the Republicans, while the disapproval rates are 55 and 51% respectively.
According to the poll, on the other hand, Trump would likely skate to the 2024 GOP nomination if he decides to run, holding a gargantuan lead of 67% over his most probable GOP contenders like Mike Pence, who has 9% support, and Ron DeSantis who only has 8 percent support among voters.
According to pollster Mark Penn, Biden’s collapse has led to a surge for Trump both in a potential general election and in the GOP primary.
This is in line with the results of several polls over the past months that have indicated Trump will most likely win the GOP nomination in 2024 if he runs.
