The US has no evidence whatsoever to prove Usama bin Laden was behind 9/11 attacks, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed in an interview with NBC News’s Richard Engel from Afghanistan, responding when asked if Afghanistan will once again become a base for terrorism.
Despite a number of evidence that connects the assassinated al Qaeda leader to the airline hijackings that stunned the world hitting the WTC and Pentagon, and Bin Laden’s taped message released in 2004 in which he admitted ordering the Sept. 11 attacks, Mujahid claims there is no evidence for it not justification for the war the US waged the last 20 years in his country.
In the wake of US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, Mujahid pointed the Taliban have given promises that Afghan soil won’t be used against anyone and reiterated that Usama bin Laden was in Afghanistan when he became an issue for the Americans and that US administration has used him as an excuse for war.
According to A 9/11 Commission report, although the Taliban’s chief, Mullah Omar, and many of his senior lieutenants opposed attacking the US, Bin Laden overruled their objections and executed the attacks he later used as political and ideological foundation for his lethal, terrorist organization.
The United States’ troops have invaded Afghanistan after 9/11 attacks and the Taliban refused to hand over Bin Laden along with other al Qaeda leaders who were given sanctuary in the country. Bin Laden was assassinated on May 1, 2011 by Navy SEALs in Pakistan.
