Senate Democrats revealed a $3.5 trillion budget proposal on Monday set to allocate $107 billion in funds aimed at immigration initiatives that include the development of a citizenship pathway for migrants, Fox News informed.
According to the proposal, the Senate Judiciary Committee is set to get $107 billion in part to seek permanent lawful status for migrants that meet some criteria.
The committee will also pursue different investments in solutions that provide effective and smart border security.
The proposal does not mention the number of people that will be granted legal status and does not say which measures would be pursued.
However, according to a certain summary of the resolution, the measures are set to provide green cards to millions of migrant workers.
The proposal was harshly criticized by Mitch McConnell, the Senate Minority Leader, who said that the plan would substantially hurt the economy of the US and that the immigration package would allow for amnesty in times where there is a crisis at the southern border.
