Russian Ambassador to the United States claims the US administration’s policy on the controversial Russian natural-gas pipeline is an example of unfair competition on the global market, but hopes that the US would eventually realize that Nord Stream 2 is a purely economic project
Ambassador Anatoly Antonov said in an interview with RT America that this is a case of unfair competition on international markets with methods that Russia is against.
According to Wall Street Journal, Washington and Berlin have reached an agreement regarding Nord Stream 2, and will make the announcement on Wednesday, July 21.
It is expected that the US administration will waive its policy of opposing the pipeline while Germany, in turn, will agree to assist Ukraine in energy-related projects and diplomacy.
Bloomberg reported earlier on Tuesday that the agreement is expected to envisage German sanctions against Moscow if Moscow uses the pipeline for putting pressure on Ukraine.
The pipeline connecting Russia with Germany has long been a sore point in relations between Berlin, who has repeatedly said the project has to be completed, and Washington, who considers it Putin’s geopolitical project to keep Europe dependent on Russian energy while jeopardising the security of central and eastern European countries such as Poland and Ukraine.
