Texas to Build Southern Border Wall, Governor Abbott Announced

Texas Governor Greg Abbott showed Thursday he stays true to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s legacy when it comes to the construction of the border wall he launched, but Biden ended in January, announcing plans to build a wall on the southern border.

Abbot organized Border Security Summit in Del Rio on Thursday afternoon with a group of Texas judges, police chiefs, sheriffs and mayors to lay out his plan to secure the southern border and address the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

Blaming Biden’s administration for the influx of migrants traveling into Texas, Abbott pointed that border crisis is no laughing matter nor tourism site for Congress members to visit and then return to Washington and do nothing.

He informed of his plans to invoke Article 4 of the Texas constitution to form the Governor’s Task Force on Border and Homeland Security in order to stem the flow of unlawful immigration and illegal contraband.

In addition, the conservative governor announced other border security measures, saying that state police would begin jailing people who crossed the border illegally, and the creation of the Governor’s Task Force on Border and Homeland Security as well as $1 billion allocated toward border security.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection report shows that 180,034migrants were encountered or apprehended in May, a slight rise over April, and it expelled 112,302 single adults and families in keeping with a CDC order aimed at preventing cross-border transmission of COVID-19.

More than 1,000 Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and National Guard members are already deployed to the state’s border with Mexico by Abbott to address what he called a crisis of fentanyl being smuggled into the US.
