President Donald Trump said Sunday for NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he was not prepared to lose next year’s presidential election.
“It would be much better if I said, ‘Yeah.’ It would be much easier for me to say, ‘Oh, yes.’ No, I’m probably not too prepared to lose. I don’t like losing. I haven’t lost very much in my life,” the President said.
He added that he didn’t believe in the validity of “a lot” of votes cast, acknowledging that his statement may sound controversial.
“I’ll say something that, again, is controversial. There were a lot of votes cast that I don’t believe,” the President noted.
CNN writes, however, that while Trump appears confident of his chances to get re-elected, his campaign polling numbers paint a completely different picture. Considering the unfavorable numbers in some key states, these figures have caused concern within the President’s campaign.
Last week, it was reported that several pollsters were sacked following the release of internal polling numbers that suggested Former Vice President Joe Biden was ahead of Trump in several states, weeks after similar figures were made public by a number of outlets. According to those numbers, Trump is reportedly lagging behind Biden in some states, including Michigan and Wisconsin.
During the interview, Trump said Vice President Mike Pence would again be his running partner in the 2020 election, as well as that he “may” address election interference with his Russian counterpart at the G20 summit in Japan.
“I may if you’d like me to do it, I’ll do that,” Trump said in response to host Chuck Todd asking if the President would tell Vladimir Putting not to meddle in the election.
Trump then touched upon the topic of impeachment, saying that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi feared beginning impeachment proceedings would only benefit him politically.
“I think she feels that I will win much easier. I mean, I’ve been told that by many people,” the President said.
