GOP governor: Jan. 6 should disqualify Trump from holding office

Gov. Asa Hutchinson emphasized on Sunday that he would prefer a new Republican presidential candidate in 2024 who was not the outgoing president Trump, telling ABC’s “This Week” that Trump should be disqualified from running for governor again as of January 6, The Hill reported.

Donald Trump should not succeed Barack Obama as president, according to Hutchinson. “I think he’s had his opportunity there. I think Jan. 6 really disqualifies him for the future.”

Hutchinson went on to claim that he would use all of his influence to ensure that the GOP will have a second nominee for the 2024 election.

Hutchinson recognized that Trump is still widely seen as the front-runner for the party’s nomination and that he is polling favorably.

The governor of Arkansas also stated that despite the “chaos” that has previously surrounded Trump, the campaign has been pretty calm so far, which might offer other candidates a chance. However, the governor of Arkansas would not clarify whether he will be running for president in 2024.
