Liz Cheney is More than 20 Points Behind Trump’s Backed Hageman, New Poll Shows

According to a poll issued on Friday, Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., is 22 percent behind Republican candidate Harriet Hageman, which bodes poorly for the party’s anti-Trump primary, Fox News informed.

According to a Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy study performed on behalf of the Casper, Wyoming, Star Tribune, more over half, or 52 percent, of likely Wyoming primary voters said they would support Hageman, while only 30 percent said so for Cheney.

The poll, which was conducted July 7–11 among 1,100 potential voters, found that support for other Republican primary candidates running for Wyoming’s lone House seat was in the single digits and that 11% of respondents were still undecided.

Out of several Republicans running to succeed Cheney, who supported Trump’s impeachment and is one of two Republicans serving on the House committee looking into his alleged involvement in the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021, former president Donald Trump chose Hageman.

According to the Wyoming poll, the majority of voters (63 percent) disapproved of Cheney’s decision to sit on the January 6 Committee and said that her opposition for Trump hurt her chances of representing Wyoming (61 percent ).

And 54% stated they were less likely to vote for Cheney as a result of her participation in the select committee looking into the attacks on January 6.

Hageman’s campaign referred to Cheney’s attempt to persuade Wyoming Democrats to back her in the Republican primary as a desparate move for holding on to power.

In hearings this summer, the committee is arguing that Trump not only supported but actually inspired the raid on the Capitol in Washington, D.C., where Trump supporters burst into the structure as Congress was certifying the results of the 2020 election.

Trump’s denial of the 2020 election results and his erroneous notion that only major fraud could have given President Biden the victory, according to Cheney and the Jan. 6 Committee, pose a serious threat to democracy itself.
