On Friday, California Governor Gavin Newsom described the recall of San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin as “expected,” adding that he didn’t think it deserved the national attention it received, Fox News informed.
In an interview with FOX 11 LA host Elex Michaelson, Newsom, who was once the mayor of San Francisco, stated, that it was sort of foreseeable, especially after the school board recall.” here was nothing surprising about it.
He stated that he did not believe the recall deserved the national attention it garnered as an arbiter of something bigger and more important. He also stated that the amount of punditry on it was overwhelming.
Speaking to Michaelson he said that the people of San Francisco want the streets to be cleaned and that there is no more to say adding that people want some sense of order in the midst of the chaos they’re experiencing on the streets.
He went on to say that now crime is also part of this picture, but there’s a lot of overlap between issues such as mental health, open drug use, drug dealing, and uncleanliness in some parts of the city.
When asked if Democrats are to blame for issues such as homelessness in San Francisco and other places, he answered “certainly,” but noted that cities around the country face similar problems, Democratic and Republican alike.
He stated that it is important to focus on where an improvement is needed.
During this week’s international Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles, Michaelson spoke with Newsom.
The governor said he had not gotten engaged in the hotly disputed Los Angeles mayor’s election and that he was friends with and had also worked with both billionaire Rick Caruso as well as the US Representative Karen Bass, D-Calif., who will face off in a November runoff.
When his win was announced, he stated he was working on the budget and reading through emails.
In the coming weeks, Newsom said, the state will send out gas checks to balance record gas costs, and that California is focusing on codifying Roe v. Wade, which is in danger across the country.
