President Biden’s management of inflation has just about a quarter of American voters’ favor, adding to the president’s poor popularity rating, The Hill reports.
According to a new ABC News/Ipsos survey released on Sunday, 28% of Americans approve of Biden’s management of inflation, while 27% approve of his handling of rising gas costs.
Within his own party, Biden fared considerably better, with 56% of Democrats agreeing with his handling of inflation and 51% approving of his handling of gas costs.
Some 37% said they approved of the president’s handling of the economy, a figure that has stayed largely stable in recent months despite a 16-percentage-point drop from almost a year ago. Biden’s task on economic recovery was supported by 53% of voters in July 2021.
Biden’s work performance was not entirely bad, with 56 percent of voters approving of his COVID-19 reaction.
The survey was carried out on a nationally representative sample of 542 persons from June 3 to 4.
After the tumultuous and fatal departure of US soldiers from Afghanistan last August, Biden’s popularity rating has stayed persistently low.
Biden’s popularity rating fell to 36% in late May, his lowest since taking office. With 42% of respondents saying they approve of Biden’s performance as president, his approval rating has risen marginally.
Rising gas and grocery costs have had a direct economic impact on Americans, as seen by the current approval ratings.
