Boris Johnson Under Fresh Scrutiny after New Partygate Pictures Emerge

It’s the party that keeps coming back to haunt Boris Johnson.

Photos have emerged showing British Prime Minister Boris Johnson drinking at No. 10 parties during the heigh of Covid lockdowns in London.

The photos were taken at a leaving do for the Prime Minister’s director of communications Lee Cain, taken on November 13, 2020, during which there were lockdown rules in place in the United Kingdom.

The images fuel claims that Johnson was lying when he told MPs more than a year later that all Covid guidance was followed by the government and followed within Downing Street. On December 8, 2021, Johnson was specifically asked by MPs if there was a party in Downing Street on this date, to which Johnson replied “No, but I am sure that whatever happened, the guidance was followed and the rules were followed at all times.”

The photos all show Johnson drinking at Cain’s leaving drinks on that exact date.

No 10 has worked quickly to downplay the significance of the photos. They argued that the Met police had access to the photographs when it carried out its investigation over whether rules were breached.

MPs are saying that there is now “no doubt” that Johnson lied about Partygate.

Labour Deputy Leader Angela Rayner said that while the British public were making huge sacrifices, Johnson was breaking the law, and repeatedly said that he knew nothing about law-breaking.

“There’s no doubt now, he lied. Boris Johnson made the rules, and then broke them,” Rayner said.

People within the government and in the public erupted in anger, with immediate renewed calls for Johnson to resign.

The SNP’s party leader Ian Blackford said the Torys should “do the decent thing” and get rid of Johnson, as the photos clearly slow that the parties did indeed take place at Downing Street during lockdown, and that Johnson lied about it.

“He is a serial liar and cannot be allowed to get away with it,” Blackford said.
