President Joe Biden said that Russia’s false accusation that Ukraine has biological and chemical weapons is a “clear sign” that Russian President Vladimir Putin is desperate, and considering using biological and chemical weapons himself.
Biden said that Putin’s back is against the wall and that he is now talking about new false flags that include asserting that the U.S. has biological weapons and chemical weapons being stored in Europe, including Ukraine.
Biden emphasized that this is absolutely not true.
The U.S. president continued that Russia is suggesting that Ukraine has biological and chemical weapons within its country and that this is a clear sign that Putin is considering using both of these weapons.
Putin has used chemical weapons in the past, Biden warned, and therefore the world needs to be careful knowing what is about to come and what Russia is capable of.
Biden said that Putin knows there will be severe consequences, especially because of NATO, but did not detail what actions the defensive alliance would take.
Biden’s remarks were similar to previously made comments by government officials in the U.S. and in allied countries, all of whom have accused Russia of spreading disinformation and unproven claims that Ukraine is home to biological weapons programs and that this disinformation campaign is a potential prelude to launch its own attacks.
Russia has used chemical weapons in Syria, and the deployment of these weapons, including in civilian areas, has meant that experts and diplomats are fearful Russia will use them in Ukraine.
While Russia claims it does not target civilians and is only targeting “neo-Nazis” in Ukraine, these claims are belied by the complete devastation and destruction of entire cities, where bodies are piling up. Relentless shelling and bombings, as well as besiegement, have trapped civilians in cities while Russia continues to bomb them.
