Fauci Warns that Cases Might Increase due to New Covid-19 Variant

Dr. Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, cautioned US citizens this week that if a new strain of the virus causes case numbers to rise, they may face more COVID-19 lockdown measures shortly, Fox News informed.

The BA.2 subvariant, according to Fauci, who also acts as an adviser to President Biden, might soon increase the number of infections in the United States.

He recommended that Americans should be able to “pivot” back and forth between a more normal way of life and the efforts adopted to restrict the spread of the virus during the pandemic’s peak.

Fauci said that if a resurgence occurs that they will have to take additional measures to alleviate the situation.

He also stated that they need to be ready for every type of occurrence as they are dealing with a rather dynamic situation, noting that although the case might be rising that fatalities are not high, which means that the new variant is less severe than the Omicron variant.

Fauci added that due to the openness, it would be no surprise if the cases in the next weeks increase.

During the program, Fauci appeared to downplay concerns about the debilitating economic costs of lockdowns and other precautions.

In February, a meta-analysis of numerous studies published by Johns Hopkins University indicated that lockdowns during the first COVID-19 wave in the spring of 2020 only decreased COVID-19 mortality by.2% in the United States and Europe.

Domestic abuse episodes climbed by 8.1 percent in the United States after lockdown orders were imposed, according to a study released last year by the National Commission on COVID-19 and Criminal Justice.

Additional medical concerns have been raised about the effects of the lockdown.
