DHS Inspector General Might Have Staged a Photograph of Migrant Facility, ICE Accuses

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has accused the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) inspector general of staging a photograph that the watchdog used to highlight purportedly terrible conditions at a migrant facility in New Mexico, Fox News informed.

The activity was deemed as going against the “integrity” of the report.

The Torrance County Detention Facility in Estancia, New Mexico, which is privately maintained under contract for ICE, was determined to be hazardous and unclean, and the study took the extraordinary step of suggesting that the migrants there be relocated to other facilities.

The report also argued that ICE must right away work towards addressing the situation of staff shortage and the unsanitary conditions for living and staying there that caused numerous safety risks for all that are detained there.

It described a facility that was understaffed and had unclean facilities such as clogged toilets and broken sinks.

According to the report, ICE should relocate everyone detained there immediately.

The enforcement agency, on the other hand, slammed the report, saying in a formal response that the agency had “severe issues regarding the truth and integrity of this report” and if it met government requirements.

The OIG inspector was accused by ICE of “extremely disturbing and unprofessional behavior,” including saying 30 minutes in that “no way detainees should be kept here,” implying a predetermined decision.

The CIA also pointed to a photo showing a detainee holding a cup under flowing water, which it characterized as “a detainee sipping water from the Housing Unit Floor Mop Sink.”

The OIG mentions ICE’s complaints in the report, and expressly rebuts the photograph, claiming that inspectors saw the detainee using the faucet but did not photograph him in time.

The caption accompanying the photograph had been changed since the report was written, according to the report.

CoreCivic, the firm that runs the facility, has also slammed the article, including the purportedly manufactured photo.
