According to Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby, there are presently no indicators of a Russian chemical weapons assault coming, but authorities are keeping a careful eye on the situation, The Hill reports.
Russia has been warned by a number of world figures that it may use chemical weapons in its attacks on Ukraine.
In a Sunday interview with a German publication, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said that Russia’s recent charges against Ukraine of developing biological weapons may be a justification for releasing chemical weapons on its own in a false flag operation.
The United Kingdom is also “very concerned,” according to British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, that Russian President Vladimir Putin might command the deployment of bio-weapons in Ukraine.
Truss, speaking on CNN, said it would be a “terrible error on Russia’s behalf, adding to the severe blunders that Putin has already done.”
The White House recently warned that Russia may deploy chemical weapons in Ukraine or stage a false flag operation as a pretext for doing so. Following Russia’s accusations of the US of running biowarfare facilities in Ukraine, the two countries reached an agreement.
