Even with a return to the nuclear deal, Iran will continue to enrich uranium up to 20%, Mohammad Eslami, head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI), said on Friday, Reuters reported.
“Currently, the enrichment is carried out up to 60%, and this prompted the West to speed up the negotiation process. In the event of the lifting of sanctions, enrichment will continue to the level of 20%,” he said.
Iran began enriching uranium up to 60% in response to the sabotage at a nuclear facility in the city of Natanz on April 11, 2021, which, according to Tehran, was committed by Israel.
Representatives of the Iranian authorities have repeatedly stated that the enrichment is carried out for peaceful purposes and under the supervision of the IAEA.
