China’s UN representative abstained from voting in the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution condemning Russia’s actions in Ukraine, Sky News informed.

In the draft resolution in which UN Security Council calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, 11 member countries voted, and three abstained. The US and Albania sponsored the draft resolution.

The resolution proposed Russia’s immediate renunciation of the use of force against Ukraine and against any state of the United Nations.

According to the draft, Russia must immediately withdraw all its military forces beyond the borders of Ukraine.

In addition, the text of the resolution spoke of the UN Security Council’s regret about the Russian Federation’s decision to recognize the independence of “certain regions of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine.”

In this regard, the resolution assumed the immediate refusal of Russia from decisions to recognize the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics.

According to the draft, the UN Security Council urged the parties to adhere to the earlier Minsk agreements and work constructively in the relevant international formats, including the Normandy and trilateral contact groups.
