Lavrov, Blinken Discuss Ukraine Crisis

During a phone call with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov outlined that the “US propaganda campaign about alleged Russian aggression against Ukraine” pursued provocative goals, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

“The Minister emphasized that the propaganda campaign launched by the United States and its allies about “Russian aggression” against Ukraine pursues provocative goals, encouraging the authorities in Kyiv to sabotage the Minsk agreements and harmful attempts to resolve the “Donbass problem” by force,” the Russian ministry noted.

Lavrov also told Blinken that the US and NATO’s response to Russian proposals on security guarantees ignores key provisions for Moscow, primarily on the non-expansion of the alliance and the non-deployment of strike weapons systems near Russian borders, Bloomberg notes.

“These issues will take a central place in our assessment of the documents received from the US and NATO, and will be brought to the attention of our colleagues,” the Russian Foreign Ministry added.

Lavrov also reminded Blinken of the inadmissibility of actions that violate the commitments made at the highest level on the indivisibility of security in the Euro-Atlantic area.
