According to a report, the Biden administration is set to distribute hundreds of millions of N95 masks from the Strategic National Stockpile for free, Fox News informed.
According to Politico, the plan of the administration entails distributing N95 masks through pharmacies and community sites, providing more Americans with easy access to the medical-grade protective gear in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak.
The move comes as the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) highlighted last week that some types of masks are more effective at protecting against Covid-19 than others, particularly against the highly contagious omicron variant’s recent outbreak.
The CDC stated that some of the masks protect more than others and that some might be harder to wear consistently and tolerate, adding that the important thing is that people should wear a mask that fits well on their face and offers good protection, but at the same time is comfortable to be worn.
US President Joe Biden announced last week that his administration will provide American people with free high-quality masks.
Biden stated that he gets it that people are fed up with wearing masks all the time but claimed that masks are a crucial instrument that limits the spreading of Covid-19, especially the new omicron variant which is highly transmittable.
According to a recent story from The Washington Post, the CDC’s 2020 advice to use only cotton masks was initially based on fears that N95 masks were in limited supply, and this is no longer an issue.
In recent weeks, the CDC has come under fire for not only its mask recommendations but also for a perplexing update on the usefulness of quick testing and the duration of the time those infected with COVID-19 should isolate themselves.
