Dr. Anthony Fauci said on Sunday that the CDC might approve a new testing recommendation for US citizens who want to leave isolation after five days, Fox News informed.
This measure comes at a time when Covid-19 test shortages are already a problem as the omicron variant of the coronavirus spreads across the country.
The news comes barely a week after the CDC reduced the recommended quarantine and isolation period for people who test positive for COVID-19 but have no symptoms from ten to five days.
Those people should wear masks in public for another five days once the five days are up.
Fauci said on Sunday that persons who are released from isolation after receiving a positive COVID-19 diagnosis should be re-tested, hinting that the CDC may issue new recommendations in the coming days.
The CDC does not require or even recommend that Americans with COVID-19 who are coming out of isolation be tested at this time.
However, the government is already experiencing testing shortages.
As the omicron variant soared throughout the holiday season, especially after Christmas festivities, Americans waited in huge queues at testing sites for hours.
Americans will have to wait at least a few weeks for the promised at-home testing kits, according to the White House.
During another interview on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, Fauci reaffirmed his sentiment.
