The Motorola Razr is Back, Again

The Motorola Razr is coming, and no, it’s not the mid-2000s.

Motorola is working on a brand new version of the classic foldable phone, the Razr. It’s the third time the company has launched the foldable phone since Motorola first brought back the Razr to the phone market in 2019.

An executive at Lenovo announced that the iconic Razr is coming back in a post on Weibo, which is the Chinese version of Twitter. Lenovo owns Motorola’s smartphone business. Chen Jin, the general manager of the Lenovo Mobile Business Group in China, said that Lenovo has been working quietly on this newest addition to a whole line of foldable phones.

In the post, the executive said that the phone will include several different upgrades, including upgraded internals, upgraded UI, and an upgraded look for the hardware itself.

The phone is launching first in the Chinese market and then is expected to launch later in the United States.

The re-launch of the Razr comes following two previous attempts made since 2019 to bring back the old school favorite. But the first, and second, Razr versions did not have massive success.

Following that, Samsung released an extremely popular and successful flip phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 3, with a price tag of $1,000. Another Samsung flip phone is also very successful in the U.S., the Fold 3, meaning Motorola would have some competition if it were to relaunch the Razr in the U.S.

Motorola is not ready to give up on the Razr quite yet. First revived in 2019, it was then redesigned slightly in 2020, including a new battery life improvement and additional 5G support. Will the third time be the charm for the company?

Beyond what has been revealed in the Weibo post, very little is known about the new Razr, including when and where the phone will launch.
