New Zealander Dies of Pfizer Vaccine Related Myocarditis

A 26-year-old man’s death is connected to a rare side effect from Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine, health authorities in New Zealand have said noting, however, it remains safer to get vaccinated than to be infected with the COVID virus.

The data shows that the man has died within two weeks of receiving his first Pfizer vaccine dose.

According to the preliminary post-mortem analysis, the most probable cause of man’s death was myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle that has occurred, in this case, as a rare side effect of the vaccine.

New Zealand’s Covid-19 Vaccine Independent Safety Monitoring Board said in its statement that, based on the current available information, they consider that the myocarditis was probably due to vaccination in this individual.

Yet, the board also emphasizes that the Pfizer vaccine’s benefits for Covid-19 continue to greatly outweigh the risk of rare side effects like this.

This is the second reported death linked to the Pfizer vaccine against Covid-19 in New Zealand after the board connected in late August one woman’s myocarditis with vaccination.

The report says another two people have died with a potential myocarditis following vaccination with Pfizer jab: a 13-year-old child where further information are needed and a man in his 60s whose death was unlikely related to the vaccine.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) statement, a very rare signal of myocarditis has been reported from some COVID-19 vaccines with most myocarditis cases occurring in young men aged 16 to 24, most often within a few days of their second vaccination.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) data also shows reports of myocarditis that has been actively monitored, but they also continue to recommend that everyone older than 5 years should get vaccinated for COVID-19.
