California’s Newsom Proposes $300 Million for Local Law Enforcement

Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California proposed a plan to spend more than $300 million in order to provide help to the law enforcement and small businesses so they can cope with smash and grab thefts, Fox News informed.

Newsom’s plan is set to provide money that would be used to crackdown on organized crime rings in the country, which might be executing these increasing crimes.

Newsom stated that the problem with organized crime is a priority for California, but also across the US, adding that recently there was an increase in the number of high-profile thefts.

According to the proposed plan, in the next three years, local law enforcement agencies are set to receive $255 million intended for placing officers in stores that will have to deter the thefts. Another $30 million will be allocated for the district attorneys that will cover these cases.

Around $18 million would be allocated to creating a new unit that will be working under the state attorney general, that will consist of prosecutors and investigators who will have the task to look for the ringleaders.

Another $20 million would be channeled to small businesses that were affected by these crimes.

The California National Guard will get $20 million to fight against illegal drug smuggling.
