Senate Democrats Vote Against New US Ambassador to Japan

Former mayor of Chicago and chief of staff to Obama, Rahm Emanuel was confirmed by the US Senate as the new US ambassador to Japan, Fox News informed.

However, three Democrats have voted against this decision.

The US Senate has confirmed Emanuel with 48-21 in a session that occured in the middle of the night, and Democrat senators Elizabeth Warren, Ed Markey and Jeff Merkley voted against it.

On the other hand, eight Members of the Republican party voted to confirm Emanuel, along with the Democratic majorty. Senators Roy blunt, Susan Colling, Chuck Grassley, Bill Hagerty, Ben Sasse, Dan Sullivan, John Thune and Todd Young were the ones that voted for this motion.

Additionally, a voice vote occured after the inital voting, so the Senate has confirmed ambassadors for Vietnam, Somalia, and Spain. The voting happened right after members of the Senate agreed to hold a voting session about the Nord Stream 2 before January 14.
