Alejandro Mayorkas, the Secretary of Homeland Security has admitted on Sunday that the majority of the migrants coming from Haiti and crossed the US border in the recent weeks, have already entered the US and a second wave is more than possible, Fox News informed.
Until now, around 12,400 of the immigrants are appointed immigration judges who are hearing their cases. Another 5,000 are processed by the Department of Homeland Security and 3,000 are detained.
Mayorkas said that the administration will assess if they will be sent back to Haiti based on the public health and the public interest authorities.
The Secretary also stated that the immigrants who are released in the United States, have conditions placed on them, and are under constant monitoring to ensure they will appear before the court authorities.
