UN Security Council Deems Kabul Airport Terrorist Attack Abhorrent

I light of the two explosions outside Kabul airport that killed at least 110 people, including 13 US soldiers, the UN Security Council condemned on Friday the attack calling it especially abhorrent for deliberately targeting civilians and people helping with the their evacuation, VOA reports.

UNSC also underlined the need to hold the perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of the attacks accountable, stressing also that the Taliban should not support terrorists operating on the territory of Afghanistan, reiterating the importance of combating terrorism.

UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric that while the attacks incident underscore the volatility of the situation Afghanistan, it also strengthens UN resolve to deliver urgent assistance to the Afghan people, with UNSC calling on all relevant parties to respect and facilitate the safe evacuation of civilians.

Reports say UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has convened meeting on Monday with the UN envoys for UK, France, the US, China and Russia to discuss Afghanistan though he pointed the meeting is ‘normal’ and in the context of the UN work; when asked about what the meeting might achieve.
