US Secretary of State Reiterates US Call for Rights Progress in a Call with Saudi FM

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken reiterated the need for progress on human rights speaking with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Monday, a State Department statement says as quoted by Zawya.

The repeated calsl for human rights improvements are in the limelight ever since Biden administration approved in February the release of unclassified US intelligence report noting that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s de facto ruler, approved the2018 murder of Washington Post columnist and Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi, something that Riyadh constantly denies.

Yet, there’s no mention of the Khashoggi murder, which took place when Trump was in office in the State Department statement.

According to the information published, Blinken and the Saudi minister also discussed bolstering security cooperation, regional security, the immediate need to overcome Yemen’s humanitarian crisis ans well as last month’s attack on an oil tanker in the Arabian Sea that was blamed on Iran.
