US Embassy in Kabul Issues Security Alert to Urge Americans to Leave Afghanistan ASAP

Warning on the extremely limited ability to assist them even within Kabul due to security conditions and reduced staffing, the U.S. Embassy issued security alert on Saturday urging US citizens to leave Afghanistan as soon as possible using available commercial flight options, the statement published on the US Embassy in Kabul says.

Apart the increased Taliban violence in the wake of US troops withdrawal from the country, US citizens in Afghanistan can be exposed to the risks of face crime, terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, armed conflict as well as Covid-19.

US citizens in Afghanistan were reminded they can use repatriation loans if they experience difficulties in buying commercial flights’ tickets as well as to enroll in the Safe Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) so they can be updated in case of emergencies and evacuation flights if such event occurs in the future.

The US Embassy in Kabul works with limited resources since most of its American staff that can work remotely have already left Afghanistan in accordance with the State Department’s order issued on 27 April.
