Republican John Barrasso, who is a ranking member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, fiercely interrogated Deb Haaland, the Interior Secretary, over the tree-spiking and US President’s pick to head the BLM (Bureau of Land Management), Fox News informed.
Barrasso questioned the Interior Secretary at a committee hearing on Tuesday, that covered the president’s budget request for the Department of Interior.
The senator from Wyoming, who also leads the charges against Tracy Stone-Manning, Biden’s pick to lead the BLM, questioned Biden’s secretary whether the process of spiking trees is legal and if it can kill loggers and mill workers.
Haaland answered that this eco-terrorism tactic could kill people but that she did not know of this practice until recent findings.
She also said that she did not know for sure if tree-spiking is a federal crime, which has been since 1988, adding that she, nevertheless believes that it is a very dangerous tactic.
