Chris Wray, the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Wednesday requested from public companies and other victims of hackers to avoid paying the ransom because he believes that the move would only further encourage cybercriminals to perform this kind of attacks, CNBC informed.

Wray said this while testifying before the U.S. Senate appropriations commission.

Department of Justice has revealed that it succeeded in its effort to help the Colonial Pipeline get back around $2.3 million in cryptocurrency ransom that the company paid to the cybercriminals.
