Mayor of Chicago Says Racism is Public Health Emergency

Lori Lightfoot, the Mayor of Chicago on Thursday proclaimed that racism is a public health emergency, emphasizing that the systemic racism is the leading culprit of the discrepancies in the life expectancy across Chicago, Fox News informed.

Light stated that the life expectancy gap between the Black and the non-Black citizens is 9.2 years.

Lightfoot also mentioned that throughout history racism has always taken a serious toll on the well-being of the Black residents, adding that without the acknowledgement of this issue, the city cannot move forward and and fully provide the whole community with the means for a happy lives.

The mayor also said that she once again reiterated her commitment on current and new collaborations between community leaders and city officials to address the issue of racism in Chicago.
