France believes that “bold initiatives” are needed when discussing the future Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program, the French Foreign Ministry said.
“France, together with its partners, will mobilize all forces to achieve a diplomatic solution that will return Iran and the United States to the full implementation of the JCPOA. France has repeatedly stated that the course of these negotiations becomes more difficult as they come to the discussion of complex issues Serious differences remain at the talks,” the Foreign Ministry spokesman explained.
Moreover, they must be adopted quickly, since everybody agrees that in this case, time is against everyone, the French diplomat said.
Recently, there have been discussions between Iran and the international “five” (Russia, Great Britain, Germany, China, and France), aimed at restoring the Iranian nuclear agreement in its original form.
Experts in three working groups are working out the text of an agreement on the resumption of the implementation of the JCPOA: the lifting of US sanctions on Iran (and the further return of the United States to the deal) and the fulfillment of nuclear obligations by Iran, from which it deviates significantly.
Representatives of the JCPOA member states are also holding separate consultations with the US delegation, which withdrew from the agreement in 2018 but is now considering returning to the deal. So far, there have been no direct negotiations between the US emissaries and Iranian representatives in Vienna.
