US President Joe Biden will not shut off Trump’s Space Force and even plans its expansion, Fox News informed.
According to the federal watchdog, the possible boost arrives after Biden received a warning that space acquisitions in the Pentagon are faced with numerous delays and many cost overruns.
The budget proposal for 2022 seeks a $17.4 billion package from the Congress aimed at boosting the Space Force programme. The force is the sixth military branch that was first initiated with the National Defense Authorization Act from 2020. These numbers show a slight growth amounted to $2 billion compared to the last fiscal year.
The Space Force was often lauded by former President Donald Trump as his trademark accomplishment in line with the national front of defense. When President Biden took office he quickly curtailed certain aspects of Trump’s tenure including border security and energy, but now he proposed an increase of the number of Guardians in the Space Force by around 31%. This means that the number of Guardians in the fiscal year 2022 will be 8,400, compared to the 6,434 ones in 2021.
This is a comparison to the overall budget proposal that urges a reduction of around 5,400 in the force strength across all of the military branches, which means that one portion of the Space Force bolstering will be sourced from personnel of the other military branches.
Space Operations Command organized a three-day conference this week that went under the name of “U.S. Space Force Space Futures Workshop”. The conference was held in Colorado Springs at the Peterson Air Force Base.
According to the Chief Scientist of the Space Operations Command, Joel Mozer, the Space Force might grow beyond the military by the year 2040.
