Republican Sen. Shelley Moore Capito who claimed Sunday that ‘real compromise’ on U.S. Infrastructure Bill is possible, will meet President Jo Biden as part of bipartisan negotiations with Republicans on a potential infrastructure deal at the White House on Wednesday, The Hill learns.
Both a White House official and Senate aide on Tuesday confirmed plans for the meeting to continue their bipartisan negotiations about investing in our middle class and economic growth through infrastructure.
A group of six Senate Republicans led by Capito have proposed $928 billion to improve roads, bridges and other traditional infrastructure projects, much of which would come from money already enacted into law for other purposes that is unused, according to them.
Biden’s administration wants to move the bill through Congress promptly so the talks are continuing even though Congress is on a break, but the Senate is returning on June 7 and Biden will be under pressure to cut off negotiations if they do not show signs of significant progress.
