McGahn to Testify Before House Judiciary Committee Next Week

Ex- White House Counsel Don McGahn, who served under former President Donald Trump, will testify next week before the House Judiciary Committee after striking a deal with House Democrats and the Justice Department who agreed for him to testify behind closed doors, CNN learns.

McGahn ignored a subpoena from the Judiciary panel in 2019, initiating a legal battle between House Democrats and the Trump administration that ends with him agreeing now to testify about Trump’s attempt to obstruct investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election conducted by former special counsel Robert Mueller as well as the allegations of obstruction of justice.

Under the agreement, committee members can ask McGahn about Trump’s attempts to fire Mueller and block the Russia investigation as well as the Mueller investigation’s accuracy.

The deal also stipulates McGahn to be able to decline to answer on other topics, which would block House Democrats from learning details he might know about other major scandals during Trump’s presidency.
