Biden’s administration on Saturday revealed its plans for giving Temporary Protected Status to all the nationals of Haiti who are now living in US for eighteen months, due to current security concerns, abuse of human rights and poverty in the country, Fox News informed.

The Temporary Protected Status gives a protection to all foreign nationals, who are currently living in US, from deportation and allows them to obtain work permits, as well as the right to freely move across the US. In order to be eligible for the Haitian TPS people must be in US from May 21.

According to BuzzFeed News, the current TPS measures will potentially cover more than 100,000 nationals of Haiti.

According to the DHS, the reasons for this measure is the Haiti’s political crisis, the economic events worsened by the Covid-19 pandemic, but also the effects of the earthquake in 2010. The measure will also apply to some Haiti nationals who are living in the US since 2010.
